Description
A Boxabl Casita, $40,000 reduced from $50,000 — a factory-built accessory dwelling unit that ships folded and unfolds on site, with a full kitchen and bathroom already installed.
The kitchen is the part that distinguishes a Casita from most small prefabs: full-size, with an oven, dishwasher, microwave, shaker cabinets, a large refrigerator and a double sink under a window. The bathroom carries a large counter, a backlit mirror, a vessel sink, a deep shower or tub and a sliding glass barn door.
The manufacturing argument behind it is that houses are still built by hand, one at a time, and that moving that work into a factory is what brings the cost down. Whether a Casita may be placed and occupied on your land is decided by your local building department — zoning, permits, foundation, utility connections and setbacks all apply, and none of them are settled by the unit arriving finished.
