Description

A Boxabl Casita at $45,000, down from $50,000 — 375 square feet with 9 ft 6 in ceilings, 8 ft doors and windows, and heating and air conditioning fitted.

Nine-and-a-half-foot ceilings in 375 square feet is what stops a unit this size feeling like a caravan. Eight-foot doors and windows carry the same logic: the proportions are those of a house rather than of a mobile unit, which is most of what makes a small space liveable.

The build includes wide plank composite flooring, a washer and dryer, a built-in ironing centre, LED lighting throughout and the insulation package the manufacturer credits for its running costs. Bathroom fittings run to a deep shower or tub, vessel sink, large counter, backlit mirror and a sliding glass barn door.

As with any unit in this category, placement and occupancy are governed by your local building department. The Casita arrives finished; it does not arrive permitted.
