Description
A Thermo King SLXi-DRC single-temperature unit for domestic refrigerated containers. Slim enough to free up an extra pallet row, 200 pounds lighter than comparable units, on R-452A.
The DRC in the name is the point of the unit. A standard domestic refrigerated container fitted with a conventional unit takes 14 pallet rows; the SLXi-DRC is seven inches slimmer, which lets the same container run 15 rows. On an intermodal lane that is a seven percent capacity gain per box with no change to the container's external dimensions, and it is why the unit exists at all.
It also weighs about 200 pounds less than comparable domestic container units, which helps weight distribution inside the box. Cooling capacity is 46,000 BTU per hour holding 35 degrees F, 32,000 at zero and 19,000 at minus 20, with 40,000 BTU per hour of heating and 3,230 cubic feet per minute of airflow. The engine is the TK486V, four cylinders, direct injection, liquid cooled, rated 24.4 hp, meeting EPA Tier 4 final.
Compression is by the X430P four-cylinder reciprocating compressor at 30 cubic inches, charged with 12.6 pounds of R-452A, which carries a substantially lower global warming potential than the R-404A it replaced. System weight is 1,620 pounds and the unit measures 89.7 by 81.7 by 16.9 inches. Extended life coolant is standard, with a five year or 12,000 hour interval, and the EMI package extends filter service to 3,000 hours or two years.
