Description
Propane vessels across the full range Portline carries, from a 20 lb grill cylinder to a 1,000 gallon bulk tank, in both ASME and DOT specifications. Select the size and the configuration when you order.
The first decision is not size, it is specification. An ASME tank is a stationary pressure vessel: it is set on a pad or buried, it is filled where it stands, and it never needs requalification. A DOT cylinder is built to be moved, refilled elsewhere or exchanged, and it has to be requalified on a fixed cycle, normally at twelve years from manufacture and then more often. Food trucks, forklifts and grills take DOT cylinders. Home and building supply takes ASME.
The second decision is capacity, and it follows from load rather than from square footage alone. A 20 lb cylinder holds 4.6 gallons and runs a grill. A 120 gallon vessel holds 96 gallons and covers a cabin or a standby generator. A 250 holds 200 and reads as a month of ordinary residential supply. A 500 holds 400 and is the standard whole-home tank from roughly 2,500 square feet. A 1,000 holds 800 and takes over from about 4,500 square feet, or wherever commercial demand starts.
