Description
A 1,000 gallon horizontal ASME propane tank, available above ground on legs or coated for burial. Water capacity 1,000 gallons and 800 gallons of usable propane.
One vessel, two builds. Above ground it stands on 16-1/4 in. legs, is painted, measures 4 ft 2-15/16 in. to the top and weighs 1,737 pounds empty. Coated for burial it carries a riser and dome so the valve train stays at grade and weighs 1,812 pounds. The shell is the same 41 inches in diameter by 15 ft 11 in. long either way, and both conform to ASME Section VIII, Division 1 at 250 psig MAWP from minus 20 to 125 degrees F.
Choose above ground when install cost and future flexibility matter, and underground when the tank has to be out of sight or out of the weather. The decision has to be made before the tank is finished, because the coating and the fittings differ and a painted tank cannot lawfully be buried.
A tank this size fits a building of 4,500 square feet and up on full propane service, a commercial kitchen, a bottle-filling operation, or a farm. Where a single vessel cannot meet peak demand, two can be manifolded. NFPA 58 places above-ground vessels in this band at 25 feet from a building and a property line, and buried vessels at 10 feet, subject to whatever your local fire official requires.
