Description
An 11,600 gallon MC-331 LPG transport trailer, the highway cargo tank used to move propane, butane and other liquefied gases under pressure. Tandem axle, rated 250 or 265 psi depending on the build.
MC-331 is a DOT cargo tank specification rather than a tank size. It covers vessels that carry liquefied compressed gases on the highway under their own vapour pressure, which is why these trailers are single-compartment cylinders with heavy heads instead of the baffled, multi-compartment shells used for fuel oil and gasoline. Capacity in this class runs from about 10,600 to 11,600 gallons.
Because the product is under pressure, the specification requires a set of protections that are not optional: relief and rupture devices, emergency shut-off, internal valves on the liquid and vapour connections, static bonding, and pressure, level and temperature instrumentation. Trailers in current production are typically fitted with a product pump, hose tubes on both sides, air-operated internal and terminal valves, and disc brakes on an air ride suspension.
This is a regulated vehicle. Before it can be loaded, its periodic test and inspection record has to be current for the specification, and the operation running it needs the endorsements and the emergency response paperwork the load requires. We describe the trailer and its stampings and running gear. Confirm the exact capacity, pressure rating and inspection status of the unit in stock before you commit, and have a qualified inspector look at it.
