Description
The Carrier PowerLINE 69RG15-120W-13, the Series 13 clip-on genset built to the US EPA Tier 4 standard. It is the model an American intermodal operator would normally pick to power refrigerated containers over land.
Series 13 keeps what drivers and mechanics already know, a 2.2 litre diesel with a speed sensor and electronic governor, now rated at 18.5 kW, and pairs it with a custom 15 kW permanent magnet generator. Because that generator is more efficient, Carrier says the engine has to supply about 20 percent less power for the same electrical output. FuelWise two-speed control comes built in, and a controller decides when to step up in speed.
California needs a little planning. A Series 13 set complies with CARB when purchased and for seven years afterwards. After that, CARB calls for further reductions in this 8 to 19 kW engine class, and the set has to be fitted with Carrier's engine emissions system, available from the factory or as a field install, to keep working in the state. Outside California that deadline does not apply.
A 12 volt maintenance-free battery with a solid-state charger, a 130 gallon tank and a full 15 kW at 460 V round out the package. Prices run $8,000 to $15,500 new or used, and the set's weight is confirmed at quote.
