Description
A 250 gallon horizontal ASME propane tank set above ground on its own feet. It is sized for a water heater, a modest pool heater, a generator or a small cabin, and holds 200 gallons of propane when full.
Putting a 250 above ground saves the dig, the bedding sand and the anode that a buried tank needs. It also avoids the risk of a partly empty tank shifting or floating in saturated soil. The feet raise the shell a few inches clear of the ground, which helps where the yard floods, and every valve and the gauge stay where a driver or inspector can see them.
Tanks of this size run about 30 to 31 in. in diameter and up to 94 in. long; the one described here measures 30 by 93 in. Empty it weighs roughly 670 lb, so two people and a tractor or a small loader can place it. It conforms to ASME Section VIII, Division 1, is rated 250 psig from minus 20 to 125 degrees F, and can be pulled to a full vacuum.
A 250 is for two or three appliances, or for occasional use, rather than central heat for a year-round family home. The price is $1,650. The tank ships empty, and a licensed installer should handle the set, the regulator and the connection.
