Description
A Thermo King SG-3500 generator set for marine reefers, available clip-on or undermount. 15 kW electrical output from a 2.1 litre eco-governed cast-iron diesel rated 24.1 hp.
The SG-3500 is the quieter, cleaner successor to the SG-3000, aimed squarely at marine reefer work where a set may run unattended for weeks in whatever climate the route passes through. The engine is tested to run consistently between minus 40 and 122 degrees F and up to 10,000 feet of altitude, which covers most of what container traffic actually encounters.
Output is 15 kW, enough to power any ISO reefer, with stable voltage control that keeps output inside the limits ISO 1496 sets rather than letting it wander with load. An electronic governor delivers power only as it is needed, which is where the fuel saving comes from, and the alternator is redesigned for increased capacity and a reduced duty cycle. Service intervals run to 3,000 hours.
Compliance is the other reason buyers choose this set over an older one: EPA Tier 4 Final, European NRMM Stage V and seven-year CARB compliance, plus approval for renewable diesel and biodiesel blends such as HVO. The fuel tank holds 473 litres, with smaller and larger options. Both clip-on and undermount versions are available, so confirm which your containers or chassis are set up for.
