Forty feet is the size where cost per cubic foot stops falling. It holds roughly twice a 20 ft for well under twice the money, and it takes the same forklift pockets, corner castings and 7 ft 8 in door opening. Four weatherproof vents handle ventilation, 36 in locking bar handles operate the doors, and a lock box shrouds the padlock.
The floor is the part worth understanding: 19 plies of Keruing-Apitong marine grade plywood, 1.1 in thick. Its density keeps moisture out, which keeps fungi and termites out, which is why container floors survive decades of forklift traffic that would destroy ordinary plywood.
One practical note on siting. A tilt-bed delivering a 40 ft needs a straight approach of roughly 100 ft behind the drop point plus the tractor ahead of it, and a reach forklift with at least 15,000 lb of capacity if you intend to move the box around a site yourself.
