Description

A GT-4000 precast concrete grease interceptor: 14 ft long, 6 ft wide and 7 ft 6 in. high, weighing 39,600 pounds. Built to slow wastewater enough that fats, oils and grease separate before the flow reaches the sewer.

A grease interceptor is a settling problem solved with volume and weirs. Kitchen waste water arrives carrying fats, oils and grease in suspension; the tank slows the flow enough for the grease to rise and the solids to drop, and precast weirs in the base section hold each fraction back while clarified water passes through to the outlet. How many weirs a given installation takes depends on the flow and on what the local sewer authority requires.

Concrete is the right material at this size. The five-sided watertight base is self-ballasting, so it stays where it is put in wet ground without anchoring, and it takes traffic loading that a plastic vessel cannot. Construction is modular: a base section, top sections and lids, riser sections to bring access up as depth varies, and frames and covers at grade. Galvanised frames with galvanised covers or manhole frames with cast or ductile iron covers are both available, with loading ratings at 2, 4, 8 and 20 tons.

Access positions, block-outs and knock-outs are set at the build. Knock-outs are broken out on site with a hammer to suit the connection sizes and elevations you actually have, which is what makes a precast unit fit a real drainage layout. At close to 40,000 pounds this is a crane or heavy-machine delivery; confirm access and lifting arrangements before ordering.
