A Thermo King SG-4000 undermount genset. 15 kW at 460/230 V three phase, 60 Hz, from a 29.2 hp common-rail diesel that meets EPA and CARB Tier 4 without a diesel particulate filter.
The SG-4000 is the undermount set built around a common-rail engine, and that choice is what keeps a filter off the exhaust. High injection pressure controls particulate formation inside the cylinder rather than trapping it downstream, so the set meets EPA Tier 4 and CARB requirements out of the box without an aftertreatment system to regenerate, monitor or replace. Compliance also reaches Environment Canada and the European agency standards.
Electrical output is the ISO reefer standard: 15 kW at 460 V and 230 V three phase, 60 Hz, enough to start as well as run any ISO reefer unit. The engine is coupled to the generator and managed by the SG+ microprocessor controller, which brings variable engine speed for lower fuel burn and emissions, fuel monitoring that flags abnormal consumption, automatic preheat with delayed voltage output to protect the unit, and auto-restart to protect a load.
The set mounts under the centre of the chassis between the I-beams for road clearance and even weight distribution, with quick-disconnect hardware. Build-dependent, it weighs 1,480 or 1,495 pounds complete and carries a 75 or 80 gallon fuel tank. Safety stop controls cover low oil pressure and high water temperature.
