Description
A new 500 gallon ASME propane tank, available in the above-ground build or the coated underground build with a riser and dome. It holds 400 gallons of propane at an 80 percent fill.
The 500 gallon horizontal is the workhorse of residential propane. It is the size most often specified where a house of roughly 2,500 to 4,500 square feet runs central heat, hot water and a range on propane, and it is the smallest vessel that a metered community system will normally draw from. Small commercial users buy the same tank for kitchen gas, dry cleaning, greenhouse heat and crop drying, where the deciding factor is usually how often a bulk truck has to come out rather than peak demand.
Both builds are the same pressure vessel. The above-ground version stands on 15 inch legs, is painted, and weighs 920 pounds empty. The underground version is finished in a bury-rated coating, carries a 5 ft 9-3/8 in. riser so the valves and gauge stay at grade, and weighs 953 pounds. Either way the tank conforms to ASME Section VIII, Division 1, is stamped for 250 psig, and is installed under NFPA 58.
Select the configuration you need before ordering; the two are not interchangeable once the coating is on. Tanks ship empty. The fill, the regulator train and the gas piping are work for a licensed propane contractor, and on a buried installation that is not negotiable.
