Description
A 29.3 gallon horizontal ASME propane cylinder for RV, trailer and van installation. Steel, powder coated, with an OPD valve and mounting brackets on 46 inch centres.
The argument for a fixed ASME cylinder over a pair of removable 20 lb bottles is refills against exchanges. A single 29.3 gallon tank carries roughly the same propane as six grill bottles, so on a long trip it is filled every few months rather than swapped every few days, and any propane supplier, farm store or truck stop with a fill station can top it up.
The other advantage is regulatory. DOT cylinders have to be requalified, normally at twelve years from the date of manufacture and then on a shorter cycle. ASME tanks do not, because they are built and stamped as stationary vessels for permanent installation on the vehicle. That is why conversions and coach builders reach for a horizontal ASME cylinder when the tank is going in for good.
The tank measures 48 inches long by about 14.9 inches in diameter, weighs roughly 97 pounds empty, and is X-ray and hydrostatically tested and vacuum purged before it ships. Mounting brackets sit on 46 inch centres measured bolt hole to bolt hole. Check that dimension against your frame or subfloor before ordering, since the brackets rarely land on existing structure without a spreader plate.
