A new 1,000 gallon ASME propane tank finished for burial, supplied with the riser and dome that keep the valves, gauge and fill point at grade. Usable volume is 800 gallons.
Burying a tank this size is normally about two things: keeping a 16 foot vessel out of the view from the house, and keeping it out of the weather. Once the excavation is backfilled only the lid shows. The surrounding soil also damps the ambient temperature swing that above-ground tanks live with, which helps vaporisation through a cold winter when demand is highest.
The vessel conforms to ASME Section VIII, Division 1, complies with NFPA 58 and is rated 250 psig from minus 20 to 125 degrees F. It is registered with the National Board. A 1,000 gallon tank suits a building of roughly 4,500 square feet and up, a commercial kitchen, a standby generator with real run-time expectations, or a small metered system feeding several units.
