Description
A 1,000 gallon two-compartment septic tank, rotationally moulded from polyethylene resin in a double-wall construction. Seamless, light enough to place without heavy equipment, and rated for below-ground installation only.
Polyethylene has largely taken over from concrete at this size for a straightforward reason: a 1,000 gallon poly tank can be moved and set with far less equipment than a concrete one, and there are no seams to fail. The moulding is seamless by construction, so it does not chip, crack or split at a joint the way a cast vessel can, and it is immune to the corrosion that eventually attacks concrete in aggressive ground.
The tank is a double-wall unit, stable in groundwater up to the midline of the body, and divided into two compartments. That division is what makes it a septic tank rather than a holding tank: solids settle and are retained in the first compartment while clarified liquid passes to the second and on to the drain field. It is easy to clean and easy to inspect once the risers are in.
This tank is for burial and nothing else. Above ground it has no external support and will distort. It must not be installed under a driveway, a parking area or anywhere with vehicle traffic. Bedding and backfill should be a clean sand and gravel mix, pea gravel being the usual recommendation. Sizing, siting, percolation and permits are for your local health authority and a licensed installer, not for us.
