Description
A 20 ft open top container: removable roof bows under a weatherproof tarpaulin, plus a swing-away door header, so a crane can load from above and long cargo can come through the end. From $1,500.
Open tops solve one specific problem — cargo that a crane has to place, or that is too long or awkward to thread through a door. Machinery, pipe, steel bar, cabling, ore and logs are the standard traffic. The tarpaulin secures with ropes over removable bows, and the header rail above the doors swings clear so a load can come in horizontally as well as vertically.
Note that the bows and tarpaulin are structural as well as weatherproofing: the container ships with them fitted. If your load is over-height and cannot be covered, a flat rack is the correct equipment rather than an open top. Lashing rings are fitted throughout for securing during transport.
