Description
A new 2024 De Lucio USA 40/20 extendable chassis, $29,000 — a single-rail tridem frame that closes to carry a loaded 20 ft container and telescopes to carry a loaded 40 ft. Forty-four photographs.
The extendable frame is what you buy when your loads change length. Closed, it runs about 29 ft 7 in and handles a 20 ft box; extended and pinned, it reaches roughly 40 ft 6 in for a 40 ft. Sliding is by telescopic action of the main frame behind the landing gear, with locking pins that positively engage rather than relying on friction, and a single-step lock plus a manual lock for the extension.
Running gear is a tridem: one fixed axle and two auxiliary drop axles on fixed airbag suspension, riding on new 11R22.5 tyres and aluminium wheels with ABS. Overall length is 33 ft at 102 in wide, and the frame is designed and built to Association of American Railroads and FMVSS standards.
This is a new unit rather than a refurbished one, which on intermodal equipment matters — frame straightness and twist lock condition are expensive to correct after the fact.
