Description
A Draeger X-am 8000 portable multi-gas monitor. It measures up to six gases simultaneously from a wide sensor catalogue, with three-colour LED alarms, a 100 dB(A) sounder and a vibrating alert.
This is a confined-space and industrial hygiene instrument rather than a domestic detector. It is carried into a space before entry and worn during work, and it is configured for the hazards that space actually presents: oxygen deficiency or enrichment, combustible gases, and whichever toxic gases the process can produce. Catalytic and infrared sensing cover combustibles, electrochemical and infrared cover carbon dioxide, and a 10.6 eV photoionisation lamp covers volatile organic compounds.
The available sensors span amines, chlorine, chlorine dioxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, oxygen, ozone, phosphine, sulphur dioxide and VOCs, alongside explosive combustible gases. Which of those a given instrument carries depends on how it was built and configured, so confirm the sensor set against the hazards you are monitoring for.
Alarms are deliberately redundant, because a monitor is no use if the wearer misses it: three red LEDs for gas alarms and three yellow for device alarms, a multi-tone sounder at 100 dB(A) measured at 30 cm, and vibration. The instrument measures 179 by 77 by 42 mm and weighs approximately 495 g without the pump or 550 g with it. The product is listed as a seven-gas monitor; the manufacturer's technical data rates it for up to six simultaneous measurements, and we would rather show you both figures than pick one.
