Description
A Yanmar TK486 diesel engine for Thermo King SB and SL series refrigeration units: four cylinders, direct injection, the standard powerplant across a large part of the trailer range.
The TK486 and TK486V are the engines Thermo King specified for the SB trailer family and much of the SL range, so a replacement core covers a wide span of units. In service the engine runs 1,450 rpm on low speed and 2,200 on high, and it is rated 34 hp in the trailer units it was built for.
Buying an engine rather than a unit usually makes sense when the refrigeration side is sound and the diesel is not. Before you commit, confirm which variant your unit takes, because mounting, accessories and the fuel system differ between builds, and check what is coming with the engine: injection pump, alternator, starter and flywheel are not always included.
