A Thermo King undermount generator set for refrigerated containers: 15 kW at 460/230 V three phase, 60 Hz, mounted under the chassis between the I-beams with quick-disconnect hardware.
An undermount, or underslung, genset lives on the chassis rather than on the container. Slinging it between the I-beams keeps road clearance, distributes the weight along the frame instead of hanging it off the box face, and leaves the container's front clear for access to the reefer control box. The mounting hardware is designed for quick disconnect, so the set can come off the chassis for service without cutting anything.
Output is the transport standard: 15 kW, about 19 kVA, at 460 V and 230 V three phase, 60 Hz, which is what an ISO reefer's machinery expects for both running and starting current. The engine is a Thermo King diesel with an automatic voltage regulator, safety stop controls for low oil pressure and high water temperature, and safety guards over the moving parts.
Control is by the SG+ microprocessor, which handles automatic engine preheat, auto-restart after a fault so a load is not lost overnight, and advanced diagnostics. Depending on build, the set weighs 1,480 or 1,495 pounds complete with oil, coolant, a dry fuel tank and battery, and carries either a 75 gallon or an 80 gallon tank.
