A Thermo King Precedent S-600 single-temperature trailer refrigeration unit. 60,000 BTU per hour of cooling at a 35 degree F box, a 33 hp TK488CR engine, and no diesel particulate filter to maintain.
The S-600 is the mainstream single-temp unit on the Precedent platform, and it is built around a diesel-direct-electric architecture: the engine drives the compressor mechanically while electrically driven fans respond to what the refrigeration system actually needs, rather than to engine speed. The condenser uses microchannel coils on both the road and curb sides with an independent radiator, which is where a good part of the platform's pull-down speed comes from.
Capacity is quoted as net system cooling at 100 degrees F ambient with the engine at high speed: 60,000 BTU per hour holding 35 degrees F, 32,000 holding zero, and 20,000 holding minus 20. Heating capacity is 59,500 BTU per hour. Airflow is 3,300 cubic feet per minute at zero static pressure. Control is by the Smart Reefer 4 system with a data logger, pre-trip and running diagnostics and a USB port.
Emissions are the reason many buyers come to this unit specifically. The S-Series engine meets EPA and CARB Tier 4 final and complies with the California in-use standards for transport refrigeration units without an aftertreatment filter, which removes a maintenance item and a compliance deadline at the same time. Units are offered new or used; condition is stated on the listing, and the only warranty is Portline's own.
