Description
A 20 ft intermodal container chassis, new or used from $5,500 — a skeletal frame with twist locks set to catch the corner castings of a 20 ft box, with the deck at 48 in so a loaded container backs straight to a dock.
The dimensions that matter on a chassis are few and fixed. Overall length runs 24 ft and up, width is 96 in, kingpin sits 18 in from the front of the frame and coupler height is 48 in — standard dock height, which is what lets you reverse the whole assembly to a warehouse door and unload with a pallet jack. Tare is roughly 3,200 kg.
Configurations available run to flush back, straight frame tandem axle, tri-axle slider, drop frame, single axle, double drop and tipping. A slider moves the rear bogie to redistribute axle weight for bridge law compliance; a drop frame lowers the centre of gravity, which is the configuration for liquid payloads. Spring suspension, low-profile tyres on larger rims and ABS on the air brakes are standard across the range.
The chassis is sold as a frame. Containers are separate items in the standard and high cube categories, and titling, registration and inspection of a road trailer are the buyer's responsibility.
