At forty feet the argument for side access becomes overwhelming. Anything stored past the halfway point of a 40 ft box is effectively unreachable through the end door without moving everything in front of it. Open the side and the whole length is directly accessible to a forklift.
These shells are also the standard choice for larger mobile conversions — workshops, exhibition units, retail runs — because forty feet of openable frontage is a lot of usable face. When siting one, leave working room the full length of the door side, not just at the ends.
